The New Living Translation bible reads Proverbs 4:23 as such, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” How do we as parents guard our hearts? How do we teach our daughters to guard their hearts? Simple, by protecting it through God’s word. Just as we protect ourselves and our children from online threats, choosing friends or making any major life decision; so we should be protecting our hearts the same. It goes much deeper than those few things as what the scripture says, “..it determines the course of your life.” God calls us to guard our hearts because it is what we (especially us girls) lead with at times. Our feelings are usually in every decision we make. Sometimes that’s a good thing and other times, well, not so good. If you want your daughter to be led by her faith and not her feelings, pray for the Lord to help her in that area. This first day we are praying for our daughters hearts so that they align with God’s word and she is able to make wise decisions based on faith and not her feelings so it won’t lead her astray.
Create in me a clean heart, O God… Psalms 5:8
Heavenly Father as mothers we are in a fight for the heart of our daughters. This world does not pause to attack them from every angle from peers, media or family struggles. We also have struggles of the heart as mothers that affect us, so we know what they are up against. May our daughters seek You and your word daily so that the circumstances and complexities of life don’t stop her heart from hearing you. May they trust in you with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5). Let their hearts be pure and firm, trusting in only you. Help us, as parents to lead them towards You and be an example of faithful and committed mothers and fathers who live a life for Christ. I pray that they are led by the facts of their faith and not by their feelings so that the course of their life is determined by You. Thank you for my daughters heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Read these scriptures with your daughter and talk to her about how much God desires her heart.
